Tourism is firmly positioned in the city's development agenda and plays an important role in the solutions found in the framework of all of the Sustainable Development Goals, Therefore, the entities that manage the different touristic attractions in the city and the different tourism service providers play a fundamental role in the transformation of the sector by introducing sustainability criteria in their operations through the alignment of their strategies with the Sustainable Development Goals, thus promoting responsible tourism that respects the natural, cultural and social environment and promotes the sustainable development of the city as a touristic destination.

Tourism is one of the most important drivers of contemporary economies, particularly in developing countries, where it has positioned itself as one of the main economic activities and a major generator of employment

Sustainable tourism is an essential factor for the social development of the regions and communities that inhabit the areas where tourism activities are carried out, enabling the strengthening of their social fabric, the reduction of social inequality and the fair distribution of the benefits derived from tourism.

Tourism is explicitly mentioned as a way to generate solutions in three of the SDGs set out in the 2030 Agenda, the UNWTO states that this sector is a development tool that has the potential to contribute to the achievement of the 17 goals targets.
