Dr. Donna J. Keren

 

Donna. Keren joined NYC & Company, New York City’s official destination marketing organization in 2002 where she directs one of the travel industry’s most comprehensive and forward-looking research programs. 

 

The Research Unit provides vital statistics on the city’s travel and tourism industry. She leads a team that produces forecasts, economic and strategic reports, scenario planning and forecasting, market research, and proprietary research on the travel, leisure, and hospitality industry including borough and neighborhood tourism insights.

 

Dr. Keren contributes to a number of industry advisory boards including Brand USA, US Travel Association, Travel & Tourism Research Association (TTRA), the WTTC (World Travel & Tourism Council), the World Gastronomy Institute and the UNWTO. A regular speaker at international conferences she has presented in English and Spanish on cultural tourism, LGBT+ travel opportunities, culinary travel, student-youth travel and research methods in the travel and tourism industry. Several talks have been published in UNWTO journals and elsewhere. Dr. Keren has also taught in the graduate programs at the Tisch Center for Hospitality (NYU), SIPA (Columbia University) and the University of Barcelona.

 

Prior to joining NYC & Company, she was VP, Social Trends & New Markets for Strategic Surveys International. During the 1990s her private consultancy provided research and technical assistance to non-profit and public sector agencies. She was on the faculty of Anthropology at Temple University between 1991-1999.  

 

A native New Yorker and Lower Manhattan resident, she received her Ph.D. from the CUNY Graduate Center.
